Why should I work with a physical therapist that has a running background?
Unfortunately, just because someone is a physical therapist, it doesn’t mean that they are well versed in strength & conditioning for athletes. The same is true for running. At Trident PT, we can relate to the demands that you are putting on your body on a weekly basis because we are runners too. We’re doing the long, slow Zone 2 days. We’re doing the interval/tempo days. We’re training for races throughout the year. Why is that important? Because we know how to program design your strength workouts so that you aren’t overdoing it in the gym. This way you can improve upon any mobility and/or stability deficits and still feel recovered for your runs.
What’s the different between traditional physical therapy and our online rehab programs?
If you’ve been to traditional physical therapy, you know how frustrating it can be. You’re scheduled with 4-5+ other patients at the same time and maybe get 5-10 minutes with your physical therapist if you’re lucky. You probably were walked through a bunch of easy table exercises that were barely ever progressed (and going from a yellow band to a red band doesn’t count as progressing!). With our online rehab programs, you WILL be progressed every single week in a controlled manner with a program with runner specific exercises in mind. Plus, you’ll be able to work around your own schedule and save A LOT of time not traveling 3 days a week to physical therapy. “But don’t I need manual therapy?” Nope. Sure, manual therapy might help a little bit, but it is going to be the exercises the resolve your issues for the long haul. We want to build independence so that you can tackle any issues on your own.

FAQs:
What makes this program different from other running programs? Shouldn’t I have a program tailored to me?
I’ll be the first one to tell you that having a program tailored to you is the best way to go about it. However, not everyone has the resources or funds to be able to do that. I wanted to create a step-by-step program based on the success of patients I have worked with in the past that will help you break through your symptoms and get back to running pain-free. Each week will gradually progress more and more so that you can acclimate to the movements and work toward more complex and intense workouts. If you need an extra week before progressing, you can easily double the length of the program by simply performing each week twice before progressing to the next week.
If I have low-level pain, is this course good for me?
The initial game plan of this course is to decrease pain and improve overall mobility. If after a week or two the pain is not improving, or is getting worse, then it may be time to have it further assessed in person.
Can I still run while I rehab?
Yes. However, I do recommend taking a break from running if your pain level is a 4 out of 10 or more on the 0-10 pain scale. If you aren’t already, it may be a good idea to decrease your mileage and/or speed for the time being while we work on the root causes of your symptoms throughout the rehab program. As you are feeling better, gradually ramp the mileage and/or speed as tolerated.
How long will it take me to get out of pain?
The typical PT answer, it depends! It depends on the injury, pain level, training experience along with many other variables. It may take a couple weeks, while for others it may take 1-2 months. Everyone progresses at different rates. If you are having a lot of pain when running, I recommend decreasing mileage and/or speed so that you stay at a 3/10 pain level or less. If the pain continues to be a 4/10 or more, it's recommended to take a break from running to allow for the symptoms to calm down and not get further irritated.
How long do I have access to the program?
You have unlimited use of the program.
How long does each day take?
The beginning weeks of workouts will be around 30 minutes long. As we progress towards the end of the program and the workouts get more complex, the workout will take one hour, but the workouts were planned out to take no longer than an hour. Each week will have a summary game plan breaking down how often you should be performing the program (6 days/week, 3 days/week, 2 days/week) so that we can see optimal results, but also allow for adequate recovery time.
What equipment do I need?
I created this program with the intention of you being able to perform it at home with minimal equipment. However, you will need mini bands, long resistance bands, a pair of light dumbbells (around 25lbs) and a pair of heavier dumbbells (around 50lbs).
Do I need to see an in-person Physical Therapist?
It is not absolutely necessary to see an in-person Physical Therapist to get out of pain, especially since majority of running injuries are overuse injuries. This means you don't need manual therapy or hands on work. What you really need are exercises that address the mobility and/or stability deficits.
Who is this program NOT for?
This program is not for any acute post-surgical cases, acute ligament/tendon tears or fractures. This program is intended to be for runners dealing with chronic musculoskeletal issues.
What can I expect when I enroll in the program?
Upon completing your enrollment, you will receive an email immediately so that you can make your profile in Trainerize. You will be added into a group chat within the app with fellow runners in the program.
